How do Supartz Injections Help with Knee Pain ?

Supartz Injections are a very common treatment for knee pain caused by arthritis.

Supartz (Hyaluronic Acid) is the name of the product that isinjected directly into the knee joint to restore the cushioning and lubricating properties of the fluid in your joints (synovial fluid). This fluid acts as a lubricant and shock absorber for the knees. Hyaluronic acid mimics a naturally occurring substance in your joints that provide lubrication and help your bones move more smoothly. It may also relieve pain and discomfort.

Supartz was approved by the U.S. FDA in 2001 for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis in patients who failed to obtain sufficient relief with conservative treatments, including exercise, physical therapy, pain medications, mobility aids, and hot or cold packs. It is typically injected once a week for a 5-week cycle.

Many patients feel improvement in as little as three weeks, although it may take several weeks to feel the full effect. These injections can provide up to six months of symptom relief, including reduced pain and improved range of motion. During this time, we often recommend other treatments such as rehabilitation to strengthen and improve mobility in your knee while your pain is reduced.
